United Kingdom – Valerie Moran, a Zimbabwean-born fintech entrepreneur, has made history as the only black woman to feature among the top 1,000 wealthiest individuals in Britain’s esteemed Sunday Times Rich List.
Moran and her husband, Noel, boast an estimated combined fortune of £122 million ($158.6 million), securing their joint 970th position on the prestigious list.
The couple’s success can be attributed to their significant stake in Prepaid Financial Services, a fintech organization specializing in financial technology.
Moran holds an 81.5% stake in the company alongside her husband, with Moran herself owning a 16.3% share. As the head of client relations and operations, Moran has been instrumental in driving the company’s growth since its inception in 2008.
Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, Moran emphasized the importance of communication in an interview with IdeaMensch in 2018.
“I never stop listening, learning, and taking on board feedback and comments from my staff and employees,” she said, highlighting her dedication to collaboration and continuous improvement.
Moran’s work ethic is equally impressive, with her typical workday lasting up to 15 hours, from 9 a.m. to midnight.
While Moran’s achievement is remarkable, other women have also made their mark on the list.
Kirsten Rausing, a member of the Tetra Pak drinks carton empire family, tops the list of richest women in the UK, with an estimated wealth of £12.256 billion ($15.93 billion) alongside her brother, John Rausing. They rank sixth overall.
Another notable mention is Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken and her husband Michel de Carvalho, who secure seventh position with an estimated net worth of £12 billion ($15.60 billion). Their wealth primarily stems from their stake in the Dutch brewing giant Heineken, valued at £10.97 billion ($14.26 billion). According to reports, their stake yielded £88.7 million ($115 million) in dividends in 2018.
