Prosecutor General, Hon. Loyce Matanda-Moyo’s office, has expressed concern over the lenient sentence given to four Cameroonians who pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining Zimbabwean passports.

Christiana Byombe Duma Ebako, Muya Muya Emile, Tegha Marvel Ngei, and Nnam Yvette Kum were cautioned and discharged by a Beitbridge magistrate, sparking outrage.

“The State is of the considered view that the sentence induces shock and is manifestly lenient and does not meet the justice of the case,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).

The quartet was arrested at the Beitbridge Border Post after producing Zimbabwean passports bearing their names and photographs, despite not being Zimbabwean citizens.

Further investigations revealed that they provided false information to obtain the passports, leading to the arrest of 12 Registrar General’s Office employees.

The Prosecutor General’s intervention highlights the severity of passport fraud, compromising national security and integrity.

The case underscores the importance of prosecutors ensuring fairness and justice in sentencing.
