Commissioner General Matanga Assures Peaceful 44th SADC Summit

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has deployed adequate personnel and resources to ensure peace prevails during the 44th SADC Summit, Commissioner General Godwin Matanga said. Zimbabwe hosts the Summit on August 17-18, preceded by Heroes and Defence Forces holidays on August 12-13.

Commissioner General Matanga stated, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police has deployed police officers at all facilities where SADC guests will reside and visit.” He added, “We will maintain visibility in residential, industrial areas, and Central Business Districts through patrols and monitoring suspects.”

Matanga urged Zimbabweans to “exhibit the law-abiding citizen philosophy” and “welcome all SADC dignitaries and tourists” as the Police guarantee their safety and security. He implored motorists to drive exemplary and cooperate with police officers at roadblocks and traffic enforcement duties.

The Police Commissioner appealed to parents to prioritize children’s safety during the holiday period and urged the public to report drug barons and suppliers. He warned against operating unlicensed liquor outlets, saying, “The Police will take decisive action without fear or favour.
