A Zimbabwe National Army major appeared in Harare Magistrates Court yesterday, facing allegations of raping his biological daughter. The case was heard by Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje, who remanded the accused in custody until September 23 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

State prosecutor Mercy Masamvi opposed bail, citing the accused’s position as a powerful army officer who abused his authority to sexually harass a minor. Masamvi emphasized that the accused faces a serious offense, warranting stringent consideration.

According to the prosecution, the accused shared a bed with his daughter on Sunday before allegedly pinning and raping her. The victim escaped and confided in her sister, who was in the adjacent room. The incident was reported to ZRP Epworth, leading to the major’s arrest.
