Harare, Zimbabwe – Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development Minister, Hon. Dr. Anxious Masuka, says there is need to de-link food security and production from rainfall in the country, citing lessons learnt from the recent El Nino drought.

Addressing the Zimbabwe Irrigation Investment Conference attendees at the Harare International Conference Centre on Friday (July 5, 2024) Minister Masuka said the conference is aimed at accelerating climate-proofing the agricultural sector and attracting investment in irrigation infrastructural development.

He highlighted the importance of agricultural development in achieving the country’s vision 2030.

“Agricultural development causes industrialisation. Industrialisation causes economic development… facilitating the attainment of Vision 2030,” he said.

The conference focused on producing actionable results, with four key areas which include a dam economy, irrigable land utilisation, expansion of smallholder irrigation business units, and the Vision 2030 Incubator and Accelerator model.

Minister Masuka expressed appreciation for the country President’s support to the agricultural sector on behalf of all farmers and stakeholders.

The conference brought together various stakeholders, including farmers, investors, and government officials, to promote climate-resilient agriculture and drive economic development.
