Harare, Zimbabwe – The Ministry of Health and Child Care says recent remarks circulating on social media, exposing the healthcare crisis in Zimbabwe, is confrontation and part of “a broader pattern of unwarranted and mischievous attacks on the public healthcare system”.
This comes after several high profile individuals in Zimbabwe expressed concern and dismay after witnessing and experiencing the seriousness of the health crisis in the country including Youth Minister, Tino Machakaire.
Media personality, Tinopona Katsande, also called the situation in Zimbabwe’s hospitals “some kind of genocide”.
The Ministry however, called these exposes biased.
“We’ve taken note of these comments and would like to emphasize that while we welcome constructive engagement from all citizens and leaders, it’s vital that such discourse remains fair, balanced, and based on verified facts,” said the Health Ministry in a statement.
The Ministry, ignoring the expressed concerns, decided to highlight their own areas which they think there has been progress.
In the statement, they said there has been major achievements including infrastructure upgrades at provincial and district hospitals, improved availability of medical equipment and essential supplies, and expanded training programs for healthcare workers.
“We’re proud of the notable achievements underway across the country, including landmark open-heart surgeries conducted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and the demonstration of telemedicine capabilities in Gokwe North during the 45th Independence Day celebrations,” said the Ministry
They have also called upon all stakeholders to work together in good faith to address challenges within the health sector.
“Collaboration, not confrontation, is the path to sustainable progress.”
The Ministry said it reaffirms its commitment to building a resilient, equitable, and responsive healthcare system for all Zimbabweans.
The Ministry seems satisfied with the services it provides with current allocation of resources, urging citizens to recognize the critical services still being provided by healthcare professionals, often under resource-constrained conditions.
“We strongly reject narratives that unfairly undermine the tireless efforts of our healthcare professionals,” said the Ministry statement.
They said the Ministry remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the continued transformation of Zimbabwe’s healthcare system.
