Secretary to the Public Service Commission, Sibusisiwe Zembe, praised government ministries for their resounding success in promoting wellness and unity at this years’ Inter-Ministerial Sports Festival launch held yesterday at Mkoba Teachers’ College.
Speaking on her behalf Norber Machinjike, Head of Pay and Benefits Management and Development at the Public Service Commission, commended civil servants for upholding ethical values and demonstrating commitment to transforming public sector norms. “Today, we celebrate dedicated individuals who are the backbone of our communities,” Mrs. Zembe said. “Each one plays a crucial role in shaping society, and it’s imperative we acknowledge the values, behaviors, and relationships defining our work environment.” Zembe emphasized the importance of integrity and effectiveness in public service, recognizing the intricate web of values and relationships driving excellence in service delivery. “Your active participation is a testament to your dedication to upholding the values that define our service,” she noted.
The wellness program is a comprehensive initiative designed to enhance the overall health and well-being of employees in the workplace. This holistic approach encompasses various activities and services, including fitness programs, health screenings, and preventative care measures. To promote employee wellness, the program incorporates stress management education, smoking cessation initiatives, and exercise programs.
Additionally, weight loss competitions and wellness assessments are integrated to encourage healthy habits and monitor progress.
Zembe also encouraged civil servants to embrace cultural principles at their workplace highlighting its benefits.
“By embracing these cultural principles, you are helping to create a workplace atmosphere that encourages respect, integrity, and excellence. This commitment is essential as we strive to meet the needs of the communities we serve,” she said.
Reflecting on the program’s impact, Mrs. Zembe encouraged participants to carry the spirit of cultural appreciation into their daily work. “As we reflect on the knowledge and experiences shared during this programme, let us carry this spirit of cultural appreciation into our daily work. Together, we can continue to promote an inclusive environment that values diversity and fosters innovation.” The senior Public Service Commission official, Zembe expressed gratitude and admiration for the dedication of public servants.
