ZGC Launches a Clean-Up Campaign partnering with Harare city council in Mbare

The Zimbabwe Gender Commission, in partnership with the Harare City Council, announced a Clean-Up Campaign which took place on the 1st of March day, at Mbare Musika.


The theme for this clean-up initiative was “Clean up Mbare, Sweeping GBV Out…”
According to Zimbabwe Gender commission, the initiative is particularly significant as it coincides with the beginning of Women’s Month and serves as a prelude to the commemoration of International Women’s Day on the 8th of March.
ZGC noted that the Clean-Up Campaign in Mbare aligns with the Zimbabwe Gender Commission’s mandate to promote gender equality and address gender-based issues in society.
Zimbabwe Gender commission said the initiative coincides with the beginning of Women’s Month and serves as an introduction to International Women’s Day, highlighting the commission’s commitment to women’s empowerment and recognition.
The commission said participating in the clean-up campaign demonstrates the Commission’s proactive approach to community engagement and its dedication to grassroots initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of women and communities.
The theme “Clean up Mbare, Sweeping GBV Out…” is said to have underscored the commission’s focus on combating gender-based violence, creating safer environments, and promoting awareness about GBV issues.
ZGC said the clean-up campaign serves as a platform for community empowerment, encouraging local involvement and fostering a sense of collective responsibility towards maintaining clean and safe public spaces.
Zimbabwe Gender commission noted that by organizing the clean-up campaign in Mbare, the Commission was highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices, promoting a cleaner and healthier living environment for all residents, particularly women and children.
ZGC noted that Partnering with the Harare City Council underscores the Commission’s collaborative approach to addressing social issues and its recognition of the importance of multi-stakeholder engagement in community development initiatives.
As part of the commission’s efforts to promote cleanliness and gender awareness, ZGC said they have identified Mbare Musika and Mbare Bus Terminus as focal points for the clean-up activities and this initiative holds great importance as it will serve as a Launchpad for Women’s Month activities, symbolizing their commitment to promoting cleanliness, gender equality, and community empowerment.
