As assault and murder cases continue rocking Zhombe in the Midlands Province, a-37-year-old man’s life is hanging by the thread after being heavily assaulted with stones and knives by four assailants at St Andrews Business Centre on Friday 24 May 2024.
The assault is said emaneted from an earlier dispute over gold mining. Chiremba is currently admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital under serious condition.
The gruesome incident, which has left villagers in shock, took place at around 5pm where the victim, identified as Tichaona Chiremba, popularly known as ‘Ticha Mabhemba’ in the area, was left with multiple stab wounds with the palms of his hands hanging by the skin.
Pictures of the assault victim circulating on social media show him lying on his back with both his hands almost cut off.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said they are now on a manhunt for the four suspects, who are facing attempted murder charges.
The suspects have been identified as Mayibongwe Ngwalati, Jerry Kwenya, Mduduzi Kwenya and Nathan Mduduzi.
“All the four suspects are male adults who hail from Lwisani village under Chief Gwesela in Zhombe,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Sharing details on the incident, Inspector Mahoko said the suspects found their victim at the business centre and accused him of being involved in an altercation with them earlier over gold mining before stoning and stabbing him.
“Allegations are that, the four suspects approached the victim at St Andrews Business Centre accusing him of having been involved in a misunderstanding with them over gold mining.
“They hit him with stones and he tried to run away. They caught up with him about 100 metres from the Business Centre and stabbed him several times with Columbian knives.
“He sustained several serious stab wounds. The victim is admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital where he is receiving treatment,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko also appealed to members of the public to assist police with any information that may lead to the arrest of the four suspects.
