Zanu PF secure 109 and CCC 62 out of 171seats

Zanu-PF is on the edge of winning the majority Parliamentary election victory after having so far pocketed 109 legislative seats out of the 171 constituency results that were announced yesterday by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s provincial and constituency command centers across the nation yesterday.

The opposition Citizen Coalition for Change led by Mr Nelson Chamisa is a distant second with 62 seats after the revolutionary party regained some Parliamentary seats that had been held by the opposition.

There were a total of 209 constituencies that were contested out of the actual 2010 after the ZEC postponed the Gutu West constituency poll following the death of independent candidate, Mr Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi in a road accident.

The results at hand indicates that even if CCC win the outstanding 38 seats, Zanu Pf will constitute the bulk of Senators and legislators that will come through the women and youth quotas in the National Assembly as that constitutionally determined by the number of votes in the 210 constituencies.

In order for it to command a two-third majority in the parliament Zanu Pf is required to win 31 seats of the remaining 38 constituencies. Which some school of thoughts described as virtually impossible.

The early results showed Zanu PF retaining its rural base, while the CCC captured the urban vote, as has been the case in previous elections.
In the highest-profile loss yet for the ruling party, ZEC on Friday Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube fell by the wayside to CCC’ Pashor Sibanda clinching 8 411 votes while the former finance Minister Ncube polled (6,530).
Results from the presidential election are expected within five days of voting.
Addressing the press conference CCC’s new spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi (who replaced Fadzai Mahere) said Chamisa is leading in the presidential elections and CCC doing well in the parliamentary well in the parliamentary a development Zanu PF’s Chinamasa, dismissed as “day-dreaming”. Chinamasa said his party was “on target” to achieve 60-65% for President Mnangagwa
Mnangagwa took over from longtime strongman Robert Mugabe after a 2017 coup and won a disputed election in 2018.
