Political tension is rising in Ascot suburb of Gweru in the Midlands Province, with Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) accusing Zanu PF activists of defacing their campaign posters ahead of next month’s harmonized elections.
CCC candidates Jackous Manyanga and John Kuka are reportedly the most affected.

Aspiring ward 8 councilors, Manyanga told Kwedu News yesterday that he was not happy with the dirty tricks that were being employed by the ruling party.

“Yes it’s true our posters are being defaced on daily basis by some unscrupulous Zanu Pf supporters. Upon our Investigations we realized that supporters are using primary school pupils to deface all our posters. Taking advantages that they won’t be arrested. We replaced them and the same happened the following day and we are not happy at all,” he said.

“We thought that the ground was even, but that is not the case and we are intending to make a police report after giving a warning “he added.

Aspiring Mkoba South Constituency CCC candidate, John Kuka was also singing from the same hymn book, saying that even him as parliamentary aspirant was affected in the constituency.

“My posters are being defaced. I am pained by what is happening because we don’t have much resource. I appeal to ascot residents especially those areas around Sandara Primary School to desist from that,” he said.

Kuka will contest the race with other three candidates, MDC’s Albert Chadoka and Zanu-PF’s Wellington Magura.

“This is very unfair. How can you remove my posters? We are going to approach relevant authorities over the matter,” he added.

Aspiring councilor Manyanga will fight in the race against two candidates, the incumbent councilor, Notal Dzika of MDC and Zanu-PF’s Elias Farai Tazvitya.

The one year old party CCC candidates were also fuming yesterday, saying that if the acts persist they would approach relevant authorities over the matter.

Zanu-PF loyalist and party member Tsivai Tumba well known as Madzibaba Abrahim said accusations of the defacing of posters was the work of detractors.

“What is the purpose of removing posters? How can one party put posters all over the place without leaving any space for opponents to place theirs too.

Kwedu news toured the area and witnessed CCC posters poked all over and President Mnangagwa’s posters placed on top of some of the opposition posters.

It is quite surprising why such act only happen at the small area around Sandara School, but nothing of that sort happen in the greater part of Ascot, Mambo and Mtapa.
