The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has embarked on a nationwide campaign to tackle corruption in the land sector, focusing on rural areas.

The initiative, dubbed the ‘Sabhuku Land Deals Campaign’, aims to promote transparency and accountability in land distribution and allocation.

Kicking off in Hurungwe, the campaign has also covered Makonde, Chegutu, Zvimba, and Mhondoro districts in Mashonaland West Province.

Zacc’s Public Education Unit leads the effort, engaging traditional chiefs, headmen, government officials, and law enforcement.

ZACC Senior Public Education Officer, Charity Mudavanhu, noted the positive response from stakeholders.

“These awareness campaigns educate communities about corruption’s dangers and promote transparency in land allocation,” she said.

Hurungwe East legislator Chenjerai Kangausaru praised ZACC’s initiative, highlighting concerns over illegal land parcelling.

“Some headmen are allocating land without involving stakeholders, fueling conflicts,” he said.

The campaign seeks to put to rest lands dispute issues, ensuring collaborative governance and responsible land management.
