Woman raped as five member gang raids Gweru house

A woman was robbed and raped by one of a five member machete wielding gang that raided a house in Gweru’s Ridgemont suburb on Saturday (07/10/2023), getting away with several valuables, including a motor vehicle.
The house robbery occured at around 1:30 am and the house had two occupants in different rooms.
The gang forced entry into house, armed with a machete and knives.
The gang first assaulted the two occupants using the machete demanding cash, before ransacking the house.
The rapist gang member is said threatened to kill the woman first before his sinister act.
The five took cash (amount not disclosed), laptops, cellphones, clothes, house keys and a Toyota Alex motor vehicle which they used to getaway in.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, has appealed to the public for assistance with information that may lead to the arrest of the five, at the same time urging residents to up their security.
“We appeal for any information that can help in this investigation.
“We also urge members of the public to tighten security at their homes and where finances permit, adopt modern security methods,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko shared finer details of the robbery, adding that both victims were refered to hospital for medical treatment.
“It is alleged that; five unknown men broke into a house armed with machetes and knives.
“They assaulted two occupants who were sleeping in the house, in different rooms, demanding money. They were using a machete in the assault.
“They went on to ransack the house and stole an unknown amount of money in cash, various clothes, two cell phones, two laptops and the house keys,” he said.
On the rape victim, Inspector Mahoko said: “While the robbery was in progress one of the robbers raped one of the two complainant(s) in one of the rooms after threatening to kill her.”
He said one of the victims’ Toyota Alex motor vehicle the gang used to escape in, the registration plate is 9086 and is gold in colour.
“Both complainants were referred to Gweru Provincial Hospital for medical attention. Total value stolen is yet to be ascertained,” Inspector Mahoko added.
