A Gweru woman who allegedly killed her own child whose sex could not be established and is of no fixed abode strangled the infant to death.
Nyaradzo Muwani whose age could not be ascertained appeared before magistrate Patricia Gwetsayi charged with infanticide as defined in section 48 of the criminal law codification Reform Act chapter 9.23.
Prosecutor Taurai Bongani Mavuto alleged that on the 27th of November 2023 during the time between 600hrs and 1300hrs, the accused person the accused person Nyaradzo Muwani who is the mother of the infant strangled the child, covered the head of the infant with various clothes and plastics.
The prosecutor, Mavuto also put it that the accused then put the baby into a green Shangani bag which led to the death of the child.
“The scene was attended by the police and the body of the infant was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where it was declared dead by the doctor,” Mavuto told the court.
The accused person was receiving treatment at Gweru Provincial Hospital.
Prosecutor Mavuto also told the court that the accused person, Muwani confessed to have committed the crime after the father of the baby refused paternity. She was remanded in custody to 13 December 2023.
