Witch – Catching Charade Lands Duo Behind Bars

Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – A witch-catching charade in Kwekwe’s Mbizo 3 high density suburb has landed a self-styled prophet, and his accomplice, behind bars for public nuisance.

The fake spiritual pair, Brighton Muroyi, (whose surname ironically means witch), a 19-year-old self-proclaimed prophet of an Apostolic faith sect, and Revai Kweza, a 45-year-old woman from Mkoba 18 in Gweru, allegedly concocted a story to gain fame and attention on February 17, 2025.

Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said Kweza was found half naked, seated inside a locked and gated house near Muroyi’s shrine, who is also known as Madzibaba Heavynisher, dressed in a black skin-tight outfit, pretending to be a trapped witch.

As news of the “witch” spread, a crowd gathered, and police from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mbizo were called to the scene.

“Police from ZRP Mbizo was called and during an interview with the police, she implicated Brighton. It turned out that they had staged the story so as to increase Madzibaba Heavynisher’s fame,” Inspector Mahoko said.

Further investigations into the matter revealed WhatsApp messages on the spiritual scammers’ phones exposing their plan, including payment details for the fake witch’s services.

After the incident, Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to be cautious when engaging with prophets, stressing the importance of thorough background checks.

He also encouraged citizens to earn a living through honest means, rather than resorting to deception and manipulation as the pretentious prophetic pair.
