War Veteran Geza Expelled from Zanu Pf

Geza Fired From Party For Criticising Mnangagwa

Harare, Zimbabwe – Zanu PF has, today, expelled outspoken war veteran and central committee member, Blessed Geza, for criticizing President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Geza is calling for Mnangagwa’s resignation, citing the country’s economic woes as one of the reasons why.

Zanu PF Legal Affairs Secretary, Patrick Chinamasa, said Geza’s comments undermined the party leadership, and were an attack on the state machinery.

“The utterances by Comrade Geza, sought to undermine the party leadership, sought to undermine Zanu PF, and over and above that, was an attack on the State machinery,” Chinamasa said.¹

Geza was fired alongside former youth leader, Gifford Gomwe.

The expulsion comes amid intensifying divisions within Zanu PF over Mnangagwa’s succession.

Geza had recently rubbished threats to fire him, saying none of the current leaders had the authority to expel him from a party he helped found.

Growing divisions from within the party has seen some members expressing concerns over the growing dissent, especially among war veterans.

Geza’s expulsion is seen by some as a sign of the party’s increasing intolerance towards internal criticism.
