… two men arrested for sodomy after two months of romping, co-habiting

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has given a stern warning that homosexuality is a serious offence in Zimbabwe following the arrest of two Kwekwe men in an alleged case of sodomy.

“The crime of sodomy, where men engage in sexual acts with other men is a serious crime according to the laws of the country,” Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Mahoko said.

The warning comes following a police report of a sodomy case where the main accused, Praise Mpofu from Ridgemont in Gweru, dressed like and pretended to be a woman and went on an anal romping (sex) spree with another Kwekwe based man (name withheld) for over two months co-habiting.

The two met at a local Kwekwe night club.

The alleged victim, who was also arrested, only discovered that his supposed girlfriend was a man after Mpofu’s erection during one of the romps gave him away.

Inspector Mahoko narrated how the homosexuality case came to light.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of sodomy which occurred in Kwekwe between the months of July and September 2023.

“It is alleged that during the month of July on an unknown date (the alleged victim aged 40) of Narrans building in Kwekwe met Praise Mpofu (25) of Ridgemont Gweru who was dressed like and pretending to be a woman at a nightclub in Kwekwe.

“…proposed love to Mpofu who agreed and they began to stay together at…’s residence where they had anal sexual intercourse several times.

“On 7 September 2023 as the two were having anal sexual intercourse Mpofu allegedly had an erection and it came to light that he was a man and had been disguising as a woman all along resulting in a misunderstanding between the two,” Inspector Mahoko said.

He said both Mpofu and his victim were arrested after the police report over the incident and police are continuing investigating into it.

“Matter was reported to the Police and scene was attended and the two suspects were arrested. Investigations are going on,” Inspector Mahoko said.

Homosexuality is outlawed in Zimbabwe.
