‘ Women in Zimbabwe embrace Tug Of War Sport’

Over the years, sport in Zimbabwe has been dominated by men but now more women are taking part in more sporting activities. Tug of War for women is becoming popular in Zimbabwe since more women are engaging in the sport.
In an interview with Kwedu News, Assistant Coach for Glow Petroleum Tug of War team, Choice Kangeza said tug of war has become popular in Zimbabwe as more women are joining the sport.
‘ Tug of War is gaining popularity in Zimbabwe. Tug Of War in Zimbabwe started with about 6 teams but now it has groups from group A to group D .We have about 14 teams now,’
‘Despite social responsibilities, women seem to love sport. Women in sport are usually despised in communities, are called names but when it comes to tug of war, women love the sport and want to be emancipated through the sport,’ said Kangeza.
Kangeza also added their team Glow Petroleum won most of their games this year with gold medals and they are proud of their efforts.
‘’This year has been a good year we won most of our games with gold medals .At the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair we won the first position. We are also proud for the gold medals we won at Harare Agricultural Show, Gweru Show ,Mutare Agricultural Show as well as in Inyanga and Kariba,’ she said.
In addition Kangeza said that as a team they are prepared to show off their talent in 2023 as they are planning to go to Kimberly ,South Africa for games.
‘ In 2023 we will recruit early more players for light weight as we are planning to go to Kimberly South Africa for games. We will also have tight training so that we prepare for the games. We want to work hard and I believe will sail through,’ she said adding that women sports in Zimbabwe should be sponsored through clubs so as to encourage women in sports.
