Tax driver robbed by his passengers

A 29 year old Masvingo man was robbed off his Nissan salon motor vehicle along Zvishavane-Shurugwi road, the incident occurred on 25 April 2024 at around 2300 hours.

It is the state’s case that Allen Chirume was using his Nissan Salon motor vehicle as a tax ,he was hired by two unidentified man on the pretext that they wanted to be taken to Mhandamabwe Business Centre from Masvingo Town.

It is alleged that on reaching Mhandamabwe, the suspects offered $400usd to Chirume so that he could take them to Gweru, he agreed and they proceeded to Gweru via Zvishavane Shurugwi road.

It is said that the suspects pretended as if they had made an ecocash transfer and on reaching a point near Saironi Mine, Boterekwa, the suspects requested for a recess, while at the point, they grabbed complainant, tied his hands and legs with a wire and at the same time threatening him with a knife.

It is alleged that the suspects took cash amounting to US$20-00, a black mint cell phone, national identity card and a driver’s licence and they drove off the motor vehicle towards Shurugwi leaving the complainant at the scene.

Zimbabwe republic police midlands province are appealing for any information that may assist in the arrest of the suspects and they are urging members of the public to be cautious whenever dealing with strangers.
