Gweru District Development Coordinator, Tarisai Mudadigwa, has called for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders to combat climate change and improve family well-being.
Speaking at the District International Families Day Commemoration, Mudadigwa emphasized the importance of incorporating families into climate response frameworks and providing them with necessary resources and knowledge.
“The 2024 theme of the International Families Day seeks to direct focus on the role that families play in climate action and capacitate them with the knowledge and resources necessary to combat climate change. Families need to be incorporated in the broader climate response framework and deliver as change agents,” said Mudadigwa.
He stressed the need for stakeholders to work together to mainstream family-focused solutions and capacitate community governance structures to disseminate information on climate change and environmental protection.
“The capacitation of the existing community governance structures is essential to enabling them to disseminate information on climate change, disaster risk management and environmental protection and create tailor made response systems to help families and communities to respond to climate change challenges,” he said.
Mudadigwa also highlighted the importance of reliable energy provision to reduce deforestation and promote sustainable agriculture and livelihoods. He acknowledged the efforts of various organizations, including Women In Land Zimbabwe, Legal Resources Foundation, and the Environmental Management Agency, in organizing the event
