Senior Airfoce officer in court over $8300 fraud

A military officer and church elder, Flywell Chiminya, has been arraigned in the Gweru Magistrate Court facing two counts of fraud totalling $8,365.
The accused allegedly defrauded two individuals, Beatrice Matafa and Warren Rangai, by promising to facilitate the purchase of vehicles through a Be Forward agent. The prosecution claims that Chiminya presented fake documents and failed to deliver the vehicles as promised.
The accused denied the charges and was remanded in custody until June 20, 2024, when the case will be tried. The charges against Chiminya include fraud as defined in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, chapter 9:23 section 136.
The state outline alleges that between November 2023 and February 2024, Flywell Chiminya defrauded Beatrice Matafa and Warren Rangai of their income. Specifically, Chiminya is accused of:
- Defrauding Beatrice Matafa of $4,000 by promising to purchase a vehicle through Be Forwarded agent, failing to deliver the vehicle on time, and presenting fake documents.
- Defrauding Warren Rangaiof $4,365 by similarly promising to purchase a vehicle, failing to deliver, and presenting fake documents.
Chiminya is scheduled to appear in court on June 20, 2024, for trial. Public Prosecutor Valerie Sauramba represents the state.
