SDA Church leader in the southern African region known as the Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID), Dr Hopeson Bonya, has hailed the Seventh Day Adventist Church and its project management team for undertaking projects designed to uplift the lives of vulnerable communities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the official opening of Mtapa Centre of Influence in Gweru, June 13, 2024, the influential SDA leader, Dr Bonya, who is Vice President of SID, praised the church’s initiatives, while praising the church’s vital role in community development.

“I’m delighted to celebrate Mtapa Church’s outstanding project, and I’m honoured to witness, celebrate, and inaugurate this remarkable development. The progress is impressive, and the project managers have done an excellent job, completing the project ahead of schedule,” Bonya said.

After touring and officially opening the state-of-the-art Early Childhood education facility for the deaf kindergarten, Bonya expressed his office’s admiration for the effective use of financial assistance.

“We’re impressed by the impactful use of resources, and our division is fully committed to supporting the church’s community upliftment initiatives,” he said.

Looking to the future, Bonya said, “While this space is a great start, it’s clear that there’s a need for a larger facility to accommodate the growing needs of the community. If the church and local authorities can collaborate to provide a bigger space, we’re ready to offer even greater support and resources to make a more significant impact,” he added.

The church’s commitment to community growth has earned recognition from Gweru’s Acting Mayor, Jackous Manyanga who vowed to collaborate on upcoming initiatives.

“We highly value the contributions made by the church and recognize the positive impact they’re having on our community,” Manyanga said adding that he forward to continued collaboration and vowed the council will work to provide the necessary support to ensure their initiatives continue to flourish.
