Residents of Ascot, Mambo and Mtapa suburbs in Gweru are demanding the closure of popular Club 04 nightclub over a series of murder cases they say happen at the place.

Scores of residents at the three mentioned Gweru oldest suburbs have threatened to do massive demo at the night club, demanding the entertainment joint shut for not only being a menace and playing loud music at night but also becoming a breeding site for child sexual abuse.

They also want the police to enforce regulations prohibiting early teenage boys and girls from entering the night club and bare such establishment from being domiciled in residential areas.
The developments came as the third man yesterday died after being stabbed by a gang which ran amok stabbing the yet to be identified deceased and injuring five other imbibers. The deceased is said to have died upon admission at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

The man had multiple wounds on various parts of the body.

Late last year a man was found lying in a pool of blood at the same place Ascot Extension shops after he was reportedly butchered by a gang which has been terrorising residents in the suburb. Another man was also murdered in February 2023 after an alleged altercation over a woman.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the incident.

“We are waiting for official information,”Mahoko said.

When the Kwedu news crew visited the murder scene at around 7:30 am yesterday, police were still carrying out investigations.

The man had multiple wounds on his lower abdomen and at the back of his upper shoulder.

Witnesses who spoke to this publication on condition of anonymity said at around midnight, the men believed to be gold panners, had an altercation with some gangsters at the night club. They reportedly fought everyone at Club04 before singling out the deceased and attacked him while armed with Colombia Okapi knives and other dangerous weapons.

Kelvin Chingondo, a Mtapa resident said interventions by relevant authorities have failed as the leisure place operate as it please and children abused along the way.

“We are compelled to now bring this matter to the police’s attention to find a lasting solution,” he said.
Two of the alleged three murders and a driver who ferried them to the scene of the incident were arrested and detained at Mtapa police station.
