A kombi driver has been involved in a multiple-vehicle collision in Gweru, just days after a fatal accident in the same area.
The latest incident, which occurred near Development House, today at around 1820hrs has left three vehicles damaged, but the number of injured passengers is not yet confirmed.
According to one passenger, the kombi driver, who was over speeding recklessly rammed into three vehicles that were in motion, causing a chain reaction of crashes. The vehicles involved include a Galaxy driving school car, a Toyota Hilux with registration number AEF 7032, and another vehicle with plate number AFI 4747.
The kombi, with registration number ACZ 5312, was severely damaged in the accident, but it is not clear how many passengers were on board at the time of the crash. The driver initially fled the scene and did not return. The owner of the kombi who could not be identified drove the damaged kombi to the police station, following instructions from the law enforcement agency.
Police officers arrived at the scene approximately 30 minutes after the accident and have launched an investigation into the incident. The authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the accident and are yet to comment on the number of injuries or potential charges against the driver.
The incident has raised further concerns about road safety in Gweru, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent reckless driving behavior.
