Pregnant ” small house” burns married lover’s house,kidnaps his kids

A-30-year-old heavily pregnant woman from Masvingo is in police custody after burning her married lover’s rented lodgings and kidnapping his two kids for refusing to accept her when she attempted to elope.

The side woman, identified as Christine Maota, is facing two counts of kidnapping and a malicious damage to property charge.

Her victim and lover, Tapiwa Mhuru who is a Masvingo Polytechnic general hand employee, is married to one Margaret Chizema (31) who is a vendor at Chitima Market in the city.

Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the Provincial Police Spokesperson for Masvingo Province said on the day of the incident Maota went to Mhuru’s house and informed him of her plan to elope.

After being turned down by Mhuru, Maota left the house only to return later around 1 pm and took Mhuru’s two children, one aged five and the other six. Mhuru and his wife were away from home at the time.

The aggrieved Maota then set ablaze Mhuru’s rented rooms. The fire was extinguished by other tenants at the lodgings before spreading but all of Mhuru’s property was gutted by the fire.

After the act, Maota fled with the two kids to Rujeko where she was later arrested by the police.

The floor, windows and roof of the rooms were also badly damaged.
