Gweru, Zimbabwe – A dead human foetus was found discarded at Gweru’s main dumpsite near Woodlands Park suburb prompting an urgent appeal from authorities for public assistance in uncovering the truth and owner.

On the 15th of June 2024, at around 10:30 am, a 53-year-old Mambo Township female resident stumbled upon the gruesome discovery while searching for plastic containers at the dumpsite.

Horrified, the witness immediately reported the discovery to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Nehanda station who have begun a manhunt for its mother.

“Police in Gweru request for assistance from the public in the investigation of a case of concealment of birth where a dead human foetus was found dumped at a dumpsite,” Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said.

He said the foetus was subsequently transported to the Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

As an investigation into the case has been opened, police are now seeking the public’s help in identifying the mother of the abandoned foetus.

“Police appeal for any one who might have information that can assist in arresting the mother of the dumped foetus to contact any nearest Police Station,” said Inspector Mahoko.
