Police on Mataga , Kwekwe Armed Robbery Suspects Manhunt

Midlands- The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is on a manhunt for seven armed robbery suspects who pounced on a Mataga Growth Point business in Mberengwa, and a highway traveller in Kwekwe.

In a statement, Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the ZRP is appealing for information that may assist bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of 7 unknown suspects, wanted for questioning in connection with two separate robberies which occurred in Mataga and Kwekwe on 23 December 2024 at around 0030hrs and 1830hrs respectively,” he said.

“We appeal for any information that may assist in the identification and arrest of the suspects.”

Inspector Mahoko further urged members of the public not to carry around large sums of money.

In the first incident, which occurred in Mataga, three unknown suspects descended on Maguvudze General Dealer where they forcibly opened a storeroom door.

A 17-year-old boy who was sleeping within the premises then woke up intending to investigate but met one of the suspects who pointed a firearm at him.

The suspect grabbed the boy by the shoulder, ordered him back to bed and to cover his face.

One of the three then guarded the boy while the other two took groceries worth 517,880 South African rands and made off.

In the second incident, which occurred in Kwekwe later on the same day, a 30-year-old man, Munyaradzi Gambinya from Gweru’s Ascot Infill lost US$3,200 to four unknown men in a Toyota Mark X.

The unsuspecting Gambinya, who had spent time around car sales in Kwekwe, intended to purchase one but failed to get his choice

After, he boarded a Toyota Mark X motor vehicle at Fitchlea intending to return to Gweru, upon reaching King Solomon Hotel the driver turned right and stopped.

One of the occupants, seated at the back with Gambinya, produced an unknown object and demanded cash.

After taking the money, tey then pushed him out and drove off.
