Police hunts Mberengwa robbery and rape suspects

Zimbabwe Republic Police officer are hunting for two alleged robbery and rape suspects only identified as Nyasha and Baba Devine of Vanguard area in Mberengwa.

“We appeal for information that may lead to the arrest of two Mberengwa robbery and rape case where two suspects pounced on a shopkeeper and robbed her of cash, a cell phones and raped her once. The heinous act occurred at Dehwa shop, Vanguard in Mberengwa on 12 December 2023 at around 0200 hours,” said Zimbabwe Republic Police Inspector, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

A female a shopkeeper (name withheld), aged 21, was asleep in the shop in company of her young sister, aged 20 and a female juvenile aged 3 when two men entered the shop.

“The two suspects woke up the complainant, while threatening to kill her with a machete and demanded money. Fearing for her life she surrendered US$425-00 and a Techno cellphone,” she said.

Insp. Mahoko said the complainant managed to identify the suspects whom she knew as Nyasha and Baba Devine of Vanguard area in Mberengwa. He added that Baba Devine dragged the complainant behind the counter and raped her once.

After the act, they went away. A report was made at ZRP Mberengwa and the suspects have not been arrested.

“We appeal for information to help us in this investigation and businesses are encouraged to bank their daily takings to avoid these unfortunate incidents,”Insp. Mahoko advised.
