The Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has expressed concern over the failure of authorities to enforce traffic regulations, compromising the safety of travelers.
PAZ president Tafadzwa Goliati emphasized that despite existing laws, inadequate enforcement by the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has created a significant gap in passenger safety.
Goliati stressed that robust enforcement is essential for laws to achieve their intended outcomes.
He urged the VID and ZRP to prioritize the safety and well-being of all road users.
PAZ remains committed to advocating for passenger rights and interests, aiming to create a safer and more efficient transport system.
Recently, Statutory Instrument 118 of 2023 was amended to enhance passenger welfare and safety.
The amendment makes it compulsory for passenger service vehicles to be fitted with both speed limiters and speed monitors.
Goliati welcomed this development, stating that it is a crucial step forward in promoting passenger interests.
“While we have established laws and regulations, their impact is severely diminished by inadequate enforcement,”said Goliati.
In light of these challenges, PAZ is calling on the relevant authorities to strengthen enforcement mechanisms. We urge the VID and ZRP to prioritize the safety and well-being
