There was pandemonium at this year’s Heroes Day Commemoration as guests attending the 2023 Heroes Day Commemoration in the Midlands Capital of Zimbabwe, Gweru were hit by sudden strong winds at the time when President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa speech was being read.

Despite the unexpected weather, the guests showed great solidarity but their efforts to make a lasting impression on everyone present hit brick wall.

Concerted effort by uniformed forces to save the situation did not yield results as they quickly stood up and grabbed onto the tent to prevent it from being blown away.

Video filmed in the city of Gweru in Midlands Province on August 14 shows guests standing to hold onto the poles to prevent a tent from being blown away by the strong winds. The action packed video will soon be beamed on Kwedu Classic youtube
There were three tents but the scores of people interview had many questions than answers as to why the guest tent is targeted year in year out.
One of the attendees, a war veterans who could not be named for obvious reasons attributed the incident to angry ancestral and departed heroes and heroines’ spirits which he said should be urgently appeased.
“This has since become the norm. That other year, these spirits complained using the same language, and last year it grumbled in the same language but no one took the hid call.
“This year again both the collaborative ancestral and heroes spirits protested, on a higher a notch. I hope they have since understood the language as they have just aborted the proceedings. This is nothing but the tip of an iceberg. Things are falling apart he said,”.

A widow who purported to be the Provincial Widows and Widowers of War Veterans Association committee member, also declined to be identified expressed concern over alleged favoritism and delays in placing tombstones on the graves of their loved ones at Midlands Provincial Heroes Acre.

“The issue of tombstones was and still is a cause for concern here. You find that graves of people who died before 2015 don’t have tombstones while those of people who died in 2020 have tombstones,” she said.
