Mberengwa killer jailed 18 years for murder

Mberengwa man Jabulani Mtengwa was has been slapped with an 18-year jail term for fatally assaulting and causing the death of Shanangurai Chamwisa of Roshai village, Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa during her life-time.
The deceased was aged 60 at the time she met her death.
The convicted,Mtengwa who hailed from Mahlamvana village, under Chief Maziofa in Mberengwa Simango appeared before High Court Judge, Judge Justice Evangelista Kabasa last week facing a murder charge.
In her ruling, Justice Kabasa said society abhorred such conduct, adding that Simango violated the God-given right to life and the Constitution.
The State, led by prosecutor Mandla Ndlovu told the court that Mtengwa on the 3rd of June 2020 at around 1900hrs accused person, the deceased and Reason Gumbo were at Mwambe business centre at Madhabu shop.
“Reason Gumbo informed the accused and the deceased that he wanted to sleep and the two left together. The accused persons left Madhabu shops, after walking for a short distance the Jabulani Mtengwa and the Chamwisa had an argument, the accused person took a log and hit the now deceased on the chest and arms several times,” said Prosecutor Ndlovu.
The prosecutor went on to tell the court that a Good Samaritan Michel Shumba phones the decease’s son, Tinomutenda Chomwisa who came to ferry the deceased to her homestead. On the 4th of June 2020 the deceased was ferried in Atnos Madya’s car to Mnenene hospital where she was admitted and passed on on the 28th of June 2020 as a result of the injuries sustained in the assult by the accused.
Bulawayo Judge, Justice Kabasa slapped Mtengwa to an effective 18 months imprisonment sentence.
On 29 June 2020, Dr Juan Rodriguez Gregori carried out a postmortem and concluded that the cause of death was Hypovolemic shock, right haemothorax and Thoracic contusion, which emanated from the fatal assult.
