….Dispute erupts as to which team was playing better

Watching a soccer match between Liverpool and Manchester City ended in tragedy after a-22-year-old man from Zhombe in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, killed his brother on Sunday (10/03/2024) evening during a dispute over which team was playing better.
The suspect in the murder, Peter Mhike (22) of Hotera Village under Chief Samambwa in Zhombe, is said attacked his brother, Edmore Mhike (26), at around 8:30pm with a wooden bench and a stone, for intervening in his fight with a friend, identified as Joakim Moyo (29); killing him instantly.
The fight, which happened as they were watching the game on television at Nganunu Tuckshop in Empress, Zhombe, began with the suspect Peter and Moyo fighting over which was the better team between Liverpool and Manchester City.
The argument angered the suspect who started throwing stones at Moyo.
The suspects’ brother, Edmore, tried to stop him from fighting Moyo and thats when he turned against him leading to the murder.
Peter fled the scene after committing the crime and is still at large.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the tragedy, appealing for information from members of the public that may lead to the arrest of Peter.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a murder case in which a 26 year old man was allegedly killed by his own brother trying to stop a fight over a football match dispute.
“…we appeal to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of Peter Mhike who ran away after commission of the crime to approach any nearest Police station,” Inspector Mahoko said.
Inspector Mahoko shared more details into the incident.
“It is alleged that on the fateful day Joakim Moyo… was watching a soccer match on television between Liverpool and Manchester City in the company of the two brothers Edmore and Peter at Nganunu Tuckshop Empress, Zhombe.
“A misunderstanding arose between Joakim and Peter over the match. Joakim was disputing that Liverpool was playing better than Manchester City.
“This angered Peter who seemed to love Manchester city and started throwing stones at Joakim,” he said.
“His brother Edmore intervened trying to stop him. Peter turned against his brother and attacked him with a wooden bench.
“Edmore fell down and Peter picked a stone and struck him on the head and he died instantly,” Inspector Mahoko said.
