Man robbed after boarding private taxi

A 35-year old man was robbed of cash and cellphones on Friday 2 June 2023 to robbers who had offered him a lift to Lundi Park suburb in Gweru.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, saying police have since launched a manhunt for the assailants.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms investigating a robbery case where a35-year-old Gweru man lost cash and property valued at US$1680-00 to robbers who had give him a lift on 2 June2023 around 0600 hours near Fairmile Motel in Gweru,” he said.

The Provincial Spokes police person highlighted that the complainant boarded an unregistered BMW motor vehicle near Chicken in along Robert Mugabe way intending to go to Lundi Park suburb in Gweru.
“Upon reaching a roundabout near Fairmile Hotel, the vehicle stopped and one of the two passengers produced a knife, pointed it on the complainant’s neck ordering him to surrender all his valuables”

“The complainant complied and handed over his Samsung J4 cell phone and cash amounting to US1530-00.The men then pushed the complainant out of the vehicle before driving away,” Inspector Mahoko said.

The police appealed to members of the public who might have information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any nearest police station.
“We also urge members of the public not to carry large sums of money and also use licensed public service vehicles,” Mahoko said.
