A Chiundura man, Terrence Solomon was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly killing a fellow imbiber with a log in dispute. Zimbabwe Republic Police in Gweru confirmed the incident in a press statement. “Police they are investigating a case of Murder where a 57 year old man died after being struck with a log by a villager who accused him of being a trouble maker. “On the 22nd of October 23 at around 2300 hours, Terrence Solomon aged 26 years of Rugare Village, Chief Chiwundura and Samson Mpofu aged 57 of Dinhira Village, Chief Chiwundura were drinking beer at Gunde business centre, Chiwundura, Gweru. During the drinking spree the suspect accused Samson of being a trouble maker in the community and a misunderstanding arose,” said Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector, and Emmanuel Mahoko.
It is alleged that Samson left the business centre heading for his home and Terrence Solomon followed him while armed with a log. He caught up with him near his field, struck him with the log at the back of the head and Samson died on the spot. He then burnt Samsons body. “On the following day at around 0530 hours, Samson Mpofu’s body was found lying in the field by a passerby.
The matter was reported at ZRP Muchakata Post. “Scene was attended and the body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary for a post mortem. Terrence Solomon was arrested and he will appear in court as soon as possible, “said Inspector Mahoko, urging people to respect the sanctity of human life.
