Gang of 9 Murders Man at a Gokwe Bar

Police are on a manhunt for a nine men Gokwe gang in connection with a gruesome murder that occured on Thursday night (23 March 2023) at a local bar at Gababe Business Centre.
The gang, armed with axes, logs and spears, invaded a local bar at around 9pm at the Gababe Business Centre, Gokwe South, under Chief Njelele and ordered all patrons to lie down.
The gang’s now dead victim, Emerson Martin Dube, defied their order as the rest of the patrons complied.
This angered the group of the alleged criminals who took turns assaulting him with their weapons till he died.
Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of one gang member, Fortwell Mhlupheki, who is now assisting police with investigations.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police is in the hunt for nine men in connection with murder of
another man who was among beer drinking patrons in a Bar at Gababe Business Centre,
Gokwe South on Thursday 23 March 2023 at about 2100 hours.
“The deceased has been identified as Emerson Martin Dube, a male adult of Sihlupheke
Village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe South.
“One suspect, Fortwell Mhlupeki, a man aged 38 of Sithutha Village under Chief Njelele
in Gokwe South was arrested in connection with the case,” Inspector Mahoko said.
The remaining eight members still at large include Nelson Silemba, Benzis Dube, Calisto Mpofu, Khulani Dube, Nkathazo Ngwenya, Bhekimpilo Mpofu Nkosilathi Tshuma and another man only identified as Wellington.
All the nine men reside at Sithutha Village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe South.
Inspector Mahoko said police attended the murder scene and discovered that all those involved in the case reside in neighboring communities.
“…after receiving a report and preliminary investigations established that, the now deceased and the nine suspects reside in neighboring villages,” he said.
He said the gang did not disclose their motive for invading the bar.
After the assault, Inspector Mahoko said the victim died on the spot and his body was ferried to Gokwe South District Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem as investigations continue.
He appealed for public assistance in the apprehension of the missing suspects.
“We appeal to members of the public for information on the whereabouts of the eight
suspects,” he said.
