Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – A-29-year-old man from Kwekwe lost US$7,000 in cash to three men at gun point on Sunday afternoon (18/08/2024) in Fitchlea.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police say a manhunt is underway for the three suspects.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, says the incident occurred at around 3:30 pm.
He says the suspects approached the victim, Courage Mugari who was in the company of two friends, and politely asked to talk to him privately.
“They politely requested to talk to him in private and together with the complainant, went behind a fowl run. They indicated that they were selling gold ore.”
Two of the three suspects then produced guns before electricuting him with an electric shocker.
“The men produced 2 pistols and threatened to shoot Courage Mugari.
“One of the three men used an electric shocker to shock the complainant and forced him to sit down,” Inspector Mahoko said.
The suspects, who are still at large, made off with $7,000 in cash and a cell phone, bringing the total value stolen to $7,250.
Inspector Mahoko warned members of the public to use formal banking systems to keep their monies safe to prevent such losses.
“We urge members of the public to make use of banks and desist from carrying large sums of money as it endangers their lives,” Inspector Mahoko warned.
The ZRP is also appealing for anyone with information that can help in arresting the culprits behind this case to approach any police station.
