Shurugwi Man Commits Suicide Over Failed Reunion
By Dumisani Ndlovu
A 52-year-old man from Rockford Farm in Shurugwi allegedly took his own life after his long-time girlfriend refused to reconcile with him. Bright Sibanda is said to have hanged himself in his estranged girlfriend’s bedroom, Tariro Mutsvanga (54), at her homestead in Village Marufu, Chief Nhema, Shurugwi.
According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the police spokesperson, Sibanda had gone to Mutsvanga’s residence seeking reconciliation, but she turned him down due to domestic violence-related issues that led to their separation. Sibanda insisted on staying at the premises until Mutsvanga accepted him, prompting her to seek assistance from her uncle, who resides in the same village. The uncle accompanied Mutsvanga to his homestead for her safety, and Sibanda was asked to leave and return the following day.
The next morning, at around 7 am, Mutsvanga returned to her homestead to find Sibanda’s body hanging from the roof trusses in her bedroom. It is alleged that Sibanda had smashed the bedroom window pane to gain entry and used a copper cable to take his own life.
This tragic incident highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help and support in times of crisis.
