Somabhula man arraigned in court for raping a mentally challenged woman

A 34-year-old man from Somabhula, Decent Nyoni, has been arraigned in the Gweru Magistrate Court on charges of raping a 56-year-old mentally challenged woman.
The alleged incident occurred on June 15, 2024, at Village 4 Gokho Plains in Somabhula.
According to the prosecution, Nyoni approached the victim while she was fetching water at a borehole, dragged her into a nearby bushy area, and committed the crime. The victim reported the incident to her husband, leading to Nyoni’s arrest on June 16, 2024.
The prosecution, led by Christine Shoniwa, presented evidence that the accused, Nyoni approached the victim while she was fetching water at a borehole on June 15, 2024, in Village 4, Gokho Plains, Somabhula. The prosecution alleged that Nyoni grabbed the victim, dragged her to a nearby bushy area, and committed the crime.
The victim reported the incident to her husband, which led to Nyoni’s arrest. A police report was filed at Dorset Police Post on June 16, 2024, resulting in Nyoni’s detention.
Gweru Magistrate Beaulity Dube ordered the remand of Nyoni in custody until July 10, 2024, and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
