The African Languages week was launched in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in July 2022 by the African Academy of Languages to promote African languages and their use in Society and runs annually from January 24 to 30.
As part of their celebrations of the African Languages week, Langdentity has urged parents of African children to take an active interest in the language acquisition of their children.
In an interview with Kwedu News Langdentity founding member and Chief Learning officer Dr Thembi Dube said.
” ….with pursuit of economic gains, most parents in the diaspora have no time to engage in conversations that give cultural pride to their children..at Langdentity we understand the value of culture on character especially that culture shapes family and societal values. ”
To achieve this goal Dr Dube said Langdentity has come up with the vision and mission to offer online and face to face lessons in Shona and Ndebele to help younger generations identify with their culture.
” We also believe that this is time the social and economic value of our languages and culture should be made visible and relevant in the global village….the younger generation looks up to us to enable and strengthen them for that future driven by love for their culture and pride for their identity ”
” Langdentity is here for the future of the diasporic generations ..we let them learn language so that they can love their culture ” Dr Dube added.
Founded in August 2021 in Sydney Australia,by a Zimbabwean parent who wanted a language teacher for his daughter ( Simba Marekera) and a member of the community who has teaching and linguistics background plus a passion to help young people find structure in their lives ( Dr Sithembinkosi Dube).
