Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – In a decisive move, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has handed Kwekwe United FC a hefty fine and penalty for failing to fulfill a scheduled Castle Lager PSL fixture against Herentals on April 21 at their home venue, Ascot Stadium.
The club has been ordered to pay an effective fine of $3,000, with an additional $500 suspended for the remainder of the season, pending good behavior.
In a statement, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer, Kudzai Bare, said the US$500 was set aside provided that Kwekwe United fulfills all its following season fixtures.
“The Club was found guilty of failing to fulfil a scheduled Castle Lager PSL fixture and fined a sum of US$3 500, US$500 of which is suspended for the rest of the season on condition that the club is not convicted of a similar offence,” she said
Kwekwe United FC has been given until May 23, 2025, to settle the fine and costs associated with the hearing.
The club’s failure to comply may lead to further disciplinary action.
As a result of the ruling, Herentals FC has been awarded the unfulfilled fixture on a 3-0 scoreline in accordance with PSL rules.
