Kwekwe City Council has received government approval for its 2025 budget, totaling $47.8 million. This significant milestone paves the way for enhancing local infrastructure and service delivery.
Kwekwe Mayor, Councillor Albert Zinhanga, described the budget as “people-centered” and prioritizes critical areas such as infrastructure development, water and sanitation upgrades, and improved service delivery. The budget was approved without conditions, a notable achievement compared to other local authorities that faced restrictions.
Mayor Zinhanga expressed satisfaction with the approval process, stating that the budget reflects the needs and concerns of local residents. The council aims to utilize the budget to improve the lives of Kwekwe residents, addressing concerns around roads, water distribution pipes, and economic challenges.
The budget allocates funds for various projects, including the construction of new classroom blocks, completion of the Msasa Park clinic, and rehabilitation of road networks. The council anticipates revenue from devolution funds, ZINARA, and local authority revenue sources.
While local residents’ associations welcomed the budget, concerns were raised regarding the condition of roads and aging water pipes in older high-density suburbs. The council is committed to addressing these concerns and ensuring that the budget is utilized effectively to improve the lives of Kwekwe residents.
