Harare, Zimbabwe – Whitemore Tafadzwa Kakono, a 52-year-old former police officer currently employed by the University of Zimbabwe as the Vice Chancellor’s driver, has been arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court on charges of unlawful entry.

Kakono allegedly broke into the Interpol Regional Bureau Building in Harare on June 16, 2024, at around 6 am, gaining access to the second floor and ransacking several offices.

CCTV footage captured the accused committing the crime.

Following investigations, Kakono was arrested on June 17, 2024, at the University of Zimbabwe premises, and the jacket he wore during the offense was recovered.

The accused was remanded in custody until July 8, 2024.

Kakono’s position as a driver for the University of Zimbabwe’s Vice Chancellor and his past service as a police officer have raised eyebrows as to his intent.
