Honda Fit plunges into bridge, kills one along Harare-Masvingo highway

A-51-year old female died after a Honda Fit they were travelling in plunged into a bridge along the Harare-Masvingo highway near Chinwavaenzi on Saturday evening (29/04/23), injuring three others in the process.
The driver, one Aluwis Zengeni, is said to have lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the Chinwavaenzi bridge and veered of the road.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the tragic accident, adding that the injured were admitted at Mvuma District Hospital and in a stable condition.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 29 April 2023 along Harare-Masvingo Road at around 2100hours where one person died and three others escaped with serious injuries.
“Aluwis Zengeni aged 35 of Village Ramunga, Chief Hama was driving a Honda fit motor vehicle along Harare – Masvingo road with three passengers on board.
“Upon reaching the 213 km peg, near Chinwavaenzi, it is alleged he lost control and the vehicle veered off the bridge fell on the ground beneath the bridge.
“Among the passengers, Galdencia Zengeni a female aged 51 of village Matavire Chief Hama sustained head injuries and died on the spot while the other three were injured,” Inspector Mahoko said.
“The injured passengers are admitted in a stable condition at Mvuma District Hospital,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko discouraged night travel and encouraged road rule adherence to prevent such accidents.
“We urge members of the public to observe all the rules and regulations of the road and desist from travelling at night whenever there is an option to travel by day,” he said.
