Highway pothole accident claims one, injures three

A pothole along one of Zimbabwe’s major highways recently caused a serious accident that claimed one life and seriously injured three others.
The accident occured along the Harare-Masvingo highway on Sunday evening when a Toyota Hilux hit the pothole and veered off the road before overturning several times.
One person, Peter Chimbeva (37) from Gweru died on the spot while three others sustained injuries; however the driver, Manasa Chimbeva (45), escaped unhurt.
Midlands Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the accident appealing to drivers to be more cautious on the road.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident where one person died on the spot,” he said.
“Manasa Chimbeva, a man aged 45 years of Musungwe, Gweru was driving a Toyota Hilux motor vehicle along Harare – Masvingo road, carrying four passengers.
“On approaching the 202 kilometre peg, the vehicle hit a pothole which and the driver lost his control.
“The vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times. One person, Peter Chimbeva, aged 37 years of Musungwe Harben Park, Gweru died on the spot.
“We appeal to motorists to exercise due care, diligence and avoid speeding when driving,” Inspector Mahoko said.
