….Suspect on the Run
Zvishavane, Zimbabwe – A man from Zvishavane employed as a herd boy was left hospitalised after being heavily assaulted by his employer’s son for allegedly stealing a cellphone on December 30 at around 10 pm.
The incident, which occurred at Kosvoro Village under Chief Masunda, saw the victim Bernard Sibanda, who is employed by the suspect Khulumani Sibanda’s mother, being assaulted with a sjambok and empty beer bottle.
The suspect, Khulumani, is alleged to have come home intoxicated before confronting Bernard over the theft.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident narrating how the assault occurred.
“Circumstances around the case are that on the fateful day Bernard Sibanda who is employed as a herd boy was at home together with his employer.
“At about 2200 hours Khulumani Sibanda who is a son to the employer arrived home, drunk.
“He confronted Bernard and asked him to release his cellphone which went missing some days back. It is alleged, Bernard went to his room and brought the Cellphone.
“Angered by this, Khulumani started assaulting Bernard with a sjambok all over the body,” he said.
The brutal attack continued, police said, with Khulumani smashing the empty beer bottle on Bernard’s head and body.
“He went on to strike Bernard with an empty beer bottle on the head and all over the body.” Inspector Mahoko said.
It was only when Gladys, Khulumani’s mother, intervened that the assault stopped.
Inspector Mahoko said police were called to the scene, Bernard was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, Khulumani is on the run and the police are appealing for any information that may lead to his arrest.
Inspector Mahoko urged the public to solve disputes amicably, emphasizing the need for peaceful conflict resolution.
