On 20 November 2023 at around 1900 hours a Lady aged 23 was involved in a robbery and rape which occurred in Ascot high density Suburb in Gweru .
It is alleged that an unknown man waylaid the complainant, a female (23), of Claremont Park residential suburb who was walking alone to Ascot Extensions shopping center and Upon reaching a point near City Council Bar, the man suddenly emerged and grabbed her neck ,he dragged her into the City Council Bar where he violently demanded cash from her.
The unknown suspect robbed her of an Itel cell phone and ZWL$600.00.
The suspect is also said to have forced himself on the complainant and during the process, the complainant shouted for help and the man ran away.
The complainant sought refuge at 04 night club where she was later assisted by ZRP Mtapa Police Constabulary member.
Zimbabwe Republic Police is still investigating the case and no arrest has been made yet.
ZRP is appealing to members of the public not to use dark areas when walking at night.
In an unrelated matter it is alleged that on an unknown date, during the month of June 2023, a 30 year old woman who is believed to be suffering from mental illness was raped in Simbi Village under Chief Nyamhondo in Mberengwa.
It is alleged that the sexual attack happened when the victim was walking alone to a river.
A man identified as Tongai Shumba of Chirovandovo Business Centre is being investigated in connection with this case.
It is suspected that the suspect took advantage of the victim’s condition and lured her into a bush where he raped her, she did not tell anyone and the matter came to light when complainant’s sister discovered that she was pregnant and interviewed her.
ZRP is appealing to members of the public for any information that may assist in the arrest of these rape suspects.
