Gweru- The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands Province, Honourable Owen Ncube, has praised Chengetai Chenxi Investments for its exemplary corporate social responsibility initiatives in Shurugwi District.
The Minister commended the company’s commitment to giving back to the community, particularly in the areas of food security, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. He noted that Chengetai Chenxi Investments’ efforts align with the government’s vision for a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of 60 tonnes of mealie meal donated by the mining company to drought-affected communities at the Government Complex in Gweru, Honourable Ncube, praised Chengetai Chenxi Investments for its commitment to inclusive and shared growth.
“It is with a cheerful heart that I address you today on this very significant occasion of handover of 60 tonnes of mealie meal donated to Shurugwi North and South Constituencies by Chengetai Chenxi Investments. This noble Corporate Social Responsibility initiative exhibited by the mining company, directly augments the Second Republic’s Drought Relief Programme underpinned by the Zunde raMambo and other social safety nets availed through the Department of Social Welfare as well as Development Partners,” he said.
Minister said the donation is a testament to the company’s dedication to improving the lives of Zimbabweans. He was quick to urge other corporates to emulate this exemplary gesture and the government in building a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society by 2030.
Hon Ncube said the mealie meal donation is part of Chengetai Chenxi Investments’ robust corporate social responsibility program, which includes food security projects, youth empowerment initiatives, and partnerships with government to promote sustainable development.
“In view of the foregoing, Chengetai Chenxi Investments is keen on investing in food security projects in light of the current El-Nino induced drought. Planned food security support programs include donation of mealie meal to drought affected wards across the entire Shurugwi district guided by development structures and local stakeholders,” said the Minister.
Aligning with the President’s Agriculture 8.0 vision, Chengetai Chenxi Investments aims to collaborate with the Government to launch the One Hectare per Ward Community initiative, promoting intensive horticulture and youth empowerment in agriculture. The program will provide essential resources, including perennial water sources, drip irrigation, organic fertilizers, seeds, and technical expertise from China, focusing on market gardening. The second phase will expand to enhance small-scale livestock breeding programs, concentrating on pig, goat, and sheep farming.
Minister Ncube acknowledged the success of the New Dispensation’s engagement and re-engagement Agenda, which he said has led to numerous bilateral and multilateral agreements, particularly with the People’s Republic of China, under the south-south cooperation framework.
“These agreements have attracted significant investments across various sectors in Zimbabwe. Chengetai Chenxi Investments and Dinson Iron and Steel Manufacturing Plant in Midlands Province are notable examples of the positive impact of this policy,” said Hon. Ncube.
He added that, His Excellency President Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa has spearheaded several high-impact projects, including the USD2 billion Sino Mine Bikita Lithium and Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt’s Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, a battery manufacturing plant in Mapinga, a USD1 billion floating solar farm in Kariba, and chrome processing plants like Jin Yi and Jin An in Midlands Province, among others.
