A one year old juvenile died on the spot while her sister and father are admitted at Gweru General Hospital after being involved in a car accident along Bristol road in Gweru, Midlands Province, on Thursday at around 6pm.

Circumstances leading to the demise of the juvenile, identified as Kimberly Kakomwe, are that her father, Thompson Kakomwe (28) of Mkoba 9 was driving his Honda Fit vehicle from town with his two daughters (the other 10 years) along Bristol road when he lost control of his vehicle near Midlands Metals.

As a result, he veered off the road and plunged into a stationery truck parked on the road side leading to the juvenile’s death.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the accident cautioning drivers to be more careful on the road.

“Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident where one person died on the spot while two others were seriously injured.

“The accident occurred along Bristol road near Midlands Metals in Gweru on 8 February 2024 at around 1750 hours,” he said.

“Thompson Kakomwe, a man, aged 28 of Mkoba 9, Gweru, was driving a sky blue Honda Fit along Bristol road from Gweru town to Mkoba with her two little daughters aged 10 and one year.

“On approaching Midlands Metals, he failed to control the vehicle resulting in it veering off the road and hitting a stationery lorry which was parked outside the road.

“The one year old daughter Kimberly Kakomwe, died on the spot… Thompson suffered head injuries and was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he is admitted in a serious condition whilst the other daughter is also admitted at the same hospital in a stable condition,” Inspector Mahoko said.

He said the body of the deceased child was conveyed to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.

“We appeal to motorists to exercise due care and diligence and avoid speeding when driving on the country roads,” Inspector Mahoko warned.
