In a dogmatic display of solidarity and condemnation of racism, Germany’s national soccer team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has denounced a survey conducted by public broadcaster ARD, asking participants if they preferred having more white players in the national team.
His strong stance comes as Germany prepares to face Ukraine in a friendly match on Monday, followed by another friendly against Greece on Friday, ahead of the upcoming European Championship.
The survey, which Associated Press said polled 1,304 individuals, revealed that 21% of respondents desired a higher proportion of white players on the team.
Nagelsmann and midfielder, Joshua Kimmich, have vehemently criticized the survey, labeling it “absolutely racist” and emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusivity in soccer.
Nagelsmann’s comments come as the team prepares to take on Scotland in Munich on June 14, followed by matches against Hungary in Stuttgart on June 19 and Switzerland in Frankfurt on June 23.
The coach’s strong stance against discrimination and his advocacy for inclusivity is setting an exemplary standard for the soccer community in the country and beyond.
As the team gears up for the European Championship, coach’s message of unity and celebration of diversity serves as a powerful reminder of the impact sports can have on society.
“We’re playing a European Championship for everyone in the country.
“And anyone who can play top football is invited to be a national player and give their all for their country. And that’s what we’re doing,” Nagelsmann said.
