Nine nabbed after spate of robberies

Nine suspected robbers including a quinquagenarian were arrested following a spate of unlawful entry and Robbery cases targeting mines in and around Kwekwe District.
According to police report the gang has been linked to at least16 cases that happened during the period extending from December 2022 to May2023.
“The nine (9) are; Pride Kunze (26), Elijah Majarure (26), Obvious Kunze (25) Everthough Chigodo(29) of Rutendo in Redcliff, Theymore Mafudza (25)of Gutu under Chief Masanganise, Tobias Mangisi (30) of Mbizo, Tapiwa Ncube (35)of Lower Gweru under Chief Sogwala, Owen Chigoya (52) and Alexio CHIPATISO(21)of Redcliff.
“It has been established that the group robbed the following places; Golden Zone, Moss24, Tristan South B, LC Investments, Smallnest 10, Wand Emining syndicate, Tritan 13, Moss 21, Tritan 11, Moss 8, Rothamstead, Magamba and Moss 19,” said Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
It is alleged, the suspects raided the mines on separate occasions armed with a 303 riffle. They robbed their victims of mostly gold carbons and other valuables with a total value of US$60956-00.
“On 30 May 2023 police acting on a tipoff, arrested all nine suspects at Blue tech Service Station while aboard a Honda Fit registration AFY5859.”
“The arrest led to the recovery of a 303 rifle, serial number A24460 with a magazine of 06 rounds, about200kgs of pregnant gold carbon, solar panels, generator, two water pumps and various cellphones,” said Insp. Mahoko.
The police said eight complainants have positively identified some of the recovered property. Total value of recoveries is yet to be calculated.
“The suspects will soon appear in court and police appreciates the spirit of working partnerships between the public and the police which led to the arrest of the suspects,” he added.
